The Three from Türkiye

From a Mass Culling to Forever Homes

When thousands of dogs faced a mass cull in Türkiye, three Golden Retriever mixes found their way to New Leash On Love. They arrived carrying fear, trauma, and stories no dog should ever have to live.

Kevin

Kevin spent his life tied to a fence post, his body permanently shaped by years of neglect, leaving him with a curved spine. Yet somehow, he never lost his joy. Around the sanctuary he earned a hilarious title: the pack's official chew toy. (Don't worry—he absolutely loves it.) Kevin is one big golden goofball whose happiness is impossible to resist.

Todd

Todd was discovered with Margot in an abandoned building. By the time he arrived, shelter shock and past abuse had left him completely shut down. He stayed along the edges of the sanctuary, tracing the fence lines and worn paths instead of joining in. Little by little, he learned he was safe. Watching Todd slowly step into the middle, trust people, and discover joy has been one of our greatest privileges. His quiet friendship is something you earn—and it's worth every moment.

Margot

Margot survived the same hardships as Todd, but chose to meet the world with an open heart. Today she's our unofficial welcoming committee. If a dog is sitting alone or feeling unsure, Margot decides they're going to be friends. She gently welcomes newcomers, helps nervous dogs settle in, and reminds us every day that compassion can be taught by a dog. She truly is our sanctuary's ambassador of kindness.

Today, all three have what every dog deserves:

Forever homes.

Their stories remind us that rescue isn't only about saving lives. It's about giving dogs the time, patience, and love they need to become exactly who they were always meant to be.
