At New Leash on Love , we believe every animal deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to be loved.
New Leash On Love is a Canadian nonprofit animal welfare organization and sanctuary rooted in the belief that every animal deserves safety, dignity and belonging.
Our sanctuary is our home base. Our work reaches beyond it through storytelling, surrender support, adoption connections, community partnerships and crisis relief. We focus especially on dogs and cats who are overlooked because of age, disability, breed, trauma or simply being one face among many.
We reach out to local shelters, rescues, foster caregivers and neighbours with a question: Where are the gaps, and how can we help? Sometimes a dog needs a safe place to land. Sometimes they need their story told. Sometimes the people caring for them need supplies, connections or someone beside them.
Our focus begins locally. When our resources and relationships allow us to help responsibly and sustainably, our support can reach further, including communities affected by wildfires and conflict.
We call this picking up a corner. Each person brings what they can, helping the helpers and creating pathways home.
How a dog’s story began does not have to be how it ends.
For many animals, our goal is to help them regain confidence and find their forever family. For others, particularly seniors, medically complex dogs, or those requiring long-term support, the sanctuary becomes their permanent home—a place where they can live out their days surrounded by comfort, friendship, and love.
Our work extends beyond individual cats and dogs. We strive to support adopters, fosters, rescue partners, and families navigating difficult surrender decisions with compassion and understanding. Rescue is not simply about saving lives; it is about creating sustainable pathways to healing, community, and second chances.
Today, New Leash on Love proudly supports local and international rescue efforts, helping dogs from our own communities as well as those affected by conflict, displacement, and limited access to veterinary care around the world.
WE HAVE A NO DOGS LEFT BEHIND POLICY.
That’s why you’ll usually only see us share a handful of dogs at a time.
When NLOL commits to telling a dog’s story, we don’t simply post them and move on.
We make them a promise.
We will keep advocating, sharing, networking and searching until we’ve done everything we can to find them a safe place to land.
For the dogs we formally commit to, our goal is simple:
A HOME — OR, when appropriate and within our capacity, SANCTUARY.
Sometimes medical needs, travel restrictions or circumstances beyond anyone’s control can change what is possible. But being overlooked isn’t a reason for us to stop trying.
And we can’t fulfill that promise alone.
Our community helps us do it by:
Sharing their stories
Applying to adopt or foster
Sponsoring a dog
Helping with flights + transport
Donating toward medical care
Tagging the person who might be their person
Simply helping one more set of eyes find them
We may only carry a few stories at a time — because when we say yes to a dog, we mean it.
No dog quietly disappears from our page because they weren’t chosen quickly enough.
Once they’re ours to advocate for, we keep showing up.
