Some dogs survive. Ferguson decided to live.
Known around the sanctuary as Ferg or Gus Gus, his story began with unimaginable cruelty. As a puppy, he was hit by a car and left to fend for himself. The impact left him with a fractured limb, and before that, someone had cruelly cut off his ears with scissors. The abuse also left him with his distinctive underbite and lifelong breathing challenges.
But Ferguson never let his past decide who he would become.
Today, he's one of the sanctuary's biggest personalities—a dog who somehow believes he's part cat, part little boy, and entirely the center of every adventure.
He doesn't just sit beside you—he climbs onto your shoulders, curls himself around your neck like a little barrel of monkeys, and insists on being carried like a toddler. He'll perch on the back of the couch like a cat, carefully watching everything happening around him with endless curiosity. His expressions are priceless, his timing is impeccable, and he has an uncanny ability to make everyone laugh.
Ferg approaches life with pure joy. Every day is an opportunity for cuddles, play, and finding the highest place in the room to supervise the pack. His quirky personality has made him one of the sanctuary's greatest comedians, reminding us daily that happiness can grow even from heartbreak.
He is proof that healing isn't about forgetting the past—it's about discovering that life can still be full of wonder.
Today, Ferguson is exactly where he was always meant to be: safe, adored, endlessly entertained, and surrounded by people who celebrate every wonderfully quirky thing that makes him who he is.
